This week, our PR Manager Pauline is astonished by the power of the QSB USB 30W speaker system!

SoundScience QSB Speakers – Sleepover review

Pros: the sound clarity, the premium case to carry the speakers, the USB port, the sleek and neat design.

Cons: too heavy. Restrictive usage: for pc / laptop only.

Verdict: These little “plug and play” speakers are highly recommended for people who commute and travel a lot (premium travel case) and for those who fancy transform their living-room in a mini house-club. The sound is amazing even at maximum volume!

Full Review

I have in my hands a premium box with the colours of the brand “red and black”. It is quite heavy but the box is hard and designed to protect the tiny speakers when you travel.

Once I opened this nice box which looks like a jewel case, I had sparkles in my eyes. I discovered two little gems! Cube-shaped, mainly black – silver on the edges – those two tiny speakers look gorgeous and reflect SoundScience premium branding. I am truly amazed by the design of these speakers – sleek and neat!

But design is not everything. These are travel speakers, but are they ‘travel friendly’? The QSB Speakers once again impressed me: they are unique as you plug them to your pc / laptop via a USB port! You don’t need to charge them before using them and there is no need to worry about the battery! Thanks to the USB port, the speakers are automatically charged via your device and they are ready to be used. Impressive isn’t it?

I travel most of my weekends and when I have time off so music on the go and listening to my favourite radios stations online are vital for me. I use my netbook when I’m traveling, unfortunately its integrated speakers don’t sound very good; I also don’t feel very comfortable with earphones and their wires make your life harder – you have to be attached to your laptop! With speakers, freedom is guaranteed!

Tonight I decided to test these gems while listening to the news. I plugged them to my netbook and put the volume up! Unbelievable – these tiny speakers filled the room with a pure and clear sound! It was very enjoyable to (finally!) listen to the news and then music with a stunning sound.

I started a small test (it was already quite late and I didn’t want to bother all my neighbours) – I cranked the volume to its maximum. These speakers would also be ideal for a flat party with a bunch of friends during the weekend and on holiday. Even at full volume the clarity of the sound is still amazing!

These little “plug and play” speakers are highly recommended for people who commute and travel a lot (remember the premium box to carry them) and for those who fancy transform their living-room in a mini house-club!

Verdict: Well I’m suitably impressed with the X-mini Happy Capsule Speaker, it has most definitely lived up to the ‘Sound Beyond Size’ label that comes with it. Recommended? I would have to say yes! It really is the perfect travel companion. The Happy gives you an unlimited source of music wherever you are via SD card or any other device with a 3.5mm audio out port! The battery lasts up to 12 hours and the volume is more than enough for to fill any room you are staying in – you might even get told to turn it down!

I've never been much of a runner, mainly because the thought of spending an hour on the treadmill bores me to insanity, however...after being inadvertently signed up for the Edinburgh half-marathon, it was inevitable that I would have to do some running at some point. But how would I motivate myself to run those long 13.1 miles...cue a motivational play-list on my Nokia music phone, held securely on my arm with a made to measure Nokia case, and my newly acquired Jaybird Sportsband 2 Bluetooth Headphones (in a very appropriately named Runner's Red colour).

I can't remember using the Bluetooth function on my phone before, but in the blink of an eye phone and headphones were effortlessly signing to each other...completely wirelessly!

Now I have done a few short sessions on the treadmill in the past, helped along with music and some wired 'sports earphones' and that's the first difference right there. You really don't realise just how annoying running with wired headphones is until the wires are gone. No more clipping wires to your shirt, no more stuffing wires down your back and out your sleeve and most importantly of all no more yanking the earphones out your ears during a spirited sprint finish!

The advantages don't stop there! Not only can you say hello to wire-free music, you'll also be pleased to hear that you can say a very big hello to exceptional sound quality...no really! They may not look like they are going to dazzle you with deep bass and rich treble, but get ready for a very pleasant surprise. And there's more! The sportsbands also have a built in microphone, which, when connected (wirelessly) to you mobile phone allows you to receive crystal clear calls at the touch of a button. But what if you are using some other bluetooth enabled music device, how will you hear your phone ringing I hear you ask? Step forward the sportsbands penultimate party piece. These clever little headphones get round this little dilemma by allowing you to connect them to two bluetooth devices...at the same time. So you can be reading an e-book on you iPad while listening to the melodic tones of Mozart and at the touch of a button can answer a call, to let the Mrs know that you'll be home soon and that you like your steak medium ;-)

Back to the training though...the sportsbands final party piece lets you control your music device without having to take it out of your pocket. Stylishly incorporated onto the side of the right side headphone are controls for skipping tracks, forward and back and volume controls...yes you guessed it, up and down.

So if you haven't figured it out yet, I'm pretty pleased with my purchase. Not only have they changed the way I exercise, but they've allowed me to enjoy my music at the same time. Pros: Decent sized screen, WiFi, Android App Market, G-Sensor works well, nice customizable features,

Cons: Resistive touch screen (I prefer a capacitive screen, like when the screen responds to the little touches!)

Verdict: Overall i did really like the player. The price point makes it a very good choice if you are looking for a small portable multimedia tablet. The size is perfect for slipping into your pocket and using it on-the-go is easy! The sound quality is as good as anything out there in terms of the Internet tablet scene. When it comes down to it, if you are in the market for a handy, portable Internet tablet that has loads of options and can be used for business then I do recommend the Archos 43!

Lets see what Pauline, our PR manager, thought of the MEElectronics HT-21!

MEElectronics HT-21 – My love will never be over!

12/03/11 – 9:00 PM – Snowing Happy Day in Edinburgh!

Tonight is gonna be a good night: I have finally got a superb sample of MEElectronics HT-21 Portable Headphones in my hands and the full night in front of me to experience them!

First look: the packaging has nothing fancy. The headphones are wrapped in a simple black and plastic box. It also contains a small pouch, it's plastic too, but it looks handy to carry the headphones on the go.

When I first grabbed the set of headphones. They looked fantastic and comfy: swivel cups, adjustable and foldable headband. I couldn't wait to plug them to my netbook and test their sound quality comfort - on goes Deezer!

15 minutes later and that’s me – with Jean Rock in my ears (small digression for your culture – Jean Rock is a French founder of nightclubs, disc jockey and singer-composer!) and his famous last composition “my love is over” – I am in love with the HT-21. One thing is sure: my love will never be over for you HT-21!

Despite my first feeling regarding the packaging – really sorry guys but I have come from a Marketing background and the small things make a difference for me. ON the positive side though, I can’t stop nodding my head to the beat of the music. I even started singing, perhaps a little too loudly!? I have just glimpsed the face of one of my flat mates: “Are you training for the next X-factor?!”

The sound quality is excellent. It is clear and premium. MEElectronics didn’t leave the things half finished. Thanks to the addition of enhanced and deep bass, these headphones deliver a stunning sound!

2 hours later and I am feeling the happiest reviewer on earth because my very sensitive ears can still tolerate these headphones. MEElectronics’ secret: they have cleverly thought out the design of the cups. First the supra-aural shape enables any listener to wear the HT-21 with comfort for long hours. The cups rest on the ear. Secondly, the closed design cuts outside noise and reduces sound that others nearby can hear. I stopped singing and I am sure that I am not bothering my flat mates with my crazy French songs!

Finishing the test with “Rainbow of love” – thanks Bob for this great song, so appropriate when looking at the Scottish weather. The HT-21 compatibility is once again well planned based on portable media trends: you can use them with iPod, iPhone, MP3/CD/DVD players, computers and all devices with a standard 3.5mm jack.

11:00 PM - It is time to repack. Slipping these foldable portable headphones in its handy pouch is easy and they fit into my handbag rather neatly. Compact, lightweight, I know they will be ideal for my bus journey tomorrow morning.

Verdict:

I love: the portable, compact and very comfortable to wear for long hours of listening aspect; the stunning sound quality and the surprising price - very affordable; the wee pouch to carry them every day.

I hate: the packaging in plastic and not eyes catching!

Highly Recommended – a must have this year.

Putting a ‘basic’, or as some may call ‘cheap’, tablet up against the likes of an iPad is never going to be pretty. Surprisingly this pup has one or two little surprises hidden within its rubberised casing. It’s a good battle but there’s no doubt in my mind which tablet is king, the iPad runs the show but the MT Electronics tablet gives us something to think about if we are budget conscious!

The bad: Personally I prefer the capacitive touch screen to this resistive one, camera could be of better quality, hopefully firmware upgrades will allow for a step up to honeycomb OS!

Verdict:If you are not ready to part with a huge amount of cash for the luxury iPad and don’t mind using a stylus I can see no fault with this device. Internet browsing is made easy. Its fast, powerful, has expandable memory, an in-built camera and a bagful of other pleasing features. While the resolution is not High definition and the touch screen is resistive rather than capacitive, for the £199 price point this can be forgiven! A great value Internet tablet, just don’t expect an iPad in disguise!

I’d like to start this product review with some images of the brand new MT electronics Internet tablet, its clearly not as flashy as the sophisticated iPad but really if we are comparing devices that are opposite ends of the market what are we to expect.

Box Looks basic, but who needs a flashy box! Inside is the much needed charger, a set of 'Apple Like' earphones and a USB cable

Listening to Mr Eric Clapton via the YouTube app was a pleasure!

Turning the Tablet round seemed to cause an initial problem for the app...It soon sorted itself out!

Super fast web browsing was impressive. Images and text appeared very crisp.

The connections are clearly labelled and all are very responsive.

Before i continue with the review my dog wouldn't let me rest until she had her moment in front of the camera....

Slightly off topic.....but onwards with the review!

Initial impressions

Pressing down that little power button gave me a nice shock, the tablet starts up very quickly and immediately jumps to the home screen. Unlocking it I instantly noticed the difference that the resistive touch screen makes. I fiddled around with it and got it unlocked though, it was only here that I remembered this device has a handy stylus included. Using the stylus makes using the interface more enjoyable and a much more pleasant experience. I did find however, perhaps due to my clumsiness, that I entered menus I never meant to enter when trying to simply scroll through the list of options. It takes a little getting used to but after a minute or two I had everything under control. I was however impressed at the speed in which the menus changed, no wait time – always a Brucey bonus! I also like when devices can immediately adapt their screen to suit the different viewing angles and the Gsensor in the MT Electronics tablet copes well.

It’s all about speed.

One of our team has had this device before and they commented on the speed in which this device operates and I have no quibbles here. This tablet certainly does have fantastic speed when loading up websites and navigating through the various menus. I challenged the MT electronics to a speed test with my iPhone, they both were connected to my wireless home network and set the challenge of loading up our home page, who would win? Both looked like they would load up the quickest at some stage in the loading process however, it may be marginal but the MT electronics Tablet did seem to be fully loaded before my iPhone was finished loading.

I tested the camera on this tablet and wasn’t that impressed, but I suppose that you are hardly going to be taking any iconic pictures with your internet tablet! It’s fine for internet calls and instant messaging. Audio is important to me, I love good bit of music so I thought I would test this out. I connected the tablet to some simple 2.1 speakers at my desktop. I have to say, the tablet has done itself justice. Audio output was good enough to have me nodding my head along to the explosive AC/DC and TNT!

Conclusion

While it’s by no means a world beater, by no means an iPad replacement, it is however, an excellent value budget alternative. Sleek design? Nope, simple design. It does what it does, and it does it well. With bagsful of features and functions including HDMI out, Android 2.2 and flash support for £199 it’s a great buy.

" Screen: A photo won’t do it justice, the screen is OLED and it looks just beautiful. Lovely as it is.

"In The Hand: My first impressions were great and the absurd thinness of the A846 looks amazing.

Certainly out of the box, player and earphones will utterly beat the living poo out of Apple’s offerings. The absurdly minimalist size of the player too will really appeal to many, I may be used to carrying around a house brick but most aren’t. The A846 is just so thin it’s a little ridiculous. I don’t know how they manage it, seriously I’ve seen thicker bits of paper. "There are endless amounts of games to download, I have tried a few of them and the Archos 43 is a really nice game machine as well.

Apple and Google beaten by Amazon with Music Streaming Service Launch!

Amazon have unveiled a new music service for its customers, Cloud Player, which allows people to store their entire music collection online and access it from multiple devices.

Great innovation for all technology goers and music lovers.

The concept is simple: Amazon offers 5GB of storage space (about 1000 songs) to its customers to upload their digital music library. Moreover, new Amazon MP3 purchases saved directly to Cloud Drive are stored for free!

The Digital Media Editor for the Telegraph quoted Bill Carr, vice president of Music and Movies at Amazon:

"Our customers have told us they don't want to download music to their work computers or phones because they find it hard to move music around to different devices," said Bill Carr, vice president of Music and Movies at Amazon. "Now, whether at work, home, or on the go, customers can buy music from Amazon MP3, store it in the cloud and play it anywhere." (read the full article here)
